How to Batch Engrave Leatherette Keychains

Batch engraving leatherette keychains is mostly about repeatable placement. A snug jig cuts down on tape, shifting blanks, and remakes. Here’s a plain workflow that matches how 8D Creations jigs are meant to be used.

Who this is for: laser shop owners and makers who personalize Lonestar-style leatherette keychains in batches on a diode, CO₂, or galvo laser and want every blank to land in the same spot, run after run.

Quick checklist: matching blanks → the right jig → blanks seated snug → LightBurn template from Trevor → frame, focus, test → reload the same way.

1. Match the blank

  • Use Lonestar-style leatherette keychain blanks (the blanks these jigs are designed around)
  • If your blank is a different cut or brand, confirm fit with trevor@8dcreations.com before you buy a tray

2. Pick the right jig

  • Single — proofs and one-offs
  • 12-slot 6×2 — everyday batches (top seller)
  • 6×3 — larger loads (check bed size)

Full side-by-side: Compare keychain jigs.

3. Seat blanks snug

  • Press each blank fully into its pocket
  • You want little to no movement when you nudge the tray
  • Don’t force a blank that doesn’t match the pocket — wrong blank size is the usual culprit

4. Get the LightBurn layout

Email trevor@8dcreations.com for the LightBurn template for your jig. Then align your art to the template slots instead of guessing positions by eye. More detail: LightBurn jig setup.

5. Frame, focus, run a test

  • Frame the full tray (or a single slot on the single jig)
  • Focus on the leatherette surface
  • Run a test on scrap or one blank before a full paid batch
  • Power/speed/interval depend on your laser and material — we don’t publish one universal setting

6. Reload and repeat

Unload finished pieces, reseat the next set the same way, and keep using the same LightBurn origin / jig corner so placement stays consistent.

FAQ

What keychain blanks do these jigs fit?
They're designed around Lonestar-style leatherette keychain blanks. If your blank is a different cut or brand, email trevor@8dcreations.com to confirm fit before you buy a tray.

How many keychains can I engrave per run?
One with the single jig, 12 with the 12-slot 6×2, and 18 with the 6×3 (check that your bed fits the larger footprint).

What laser settings should I use?
Power, speed, and interval depend on your laser, lens, and leatherette, so we don't publish one universal setting. Run a test on scrap or one blank before a full batch.

How do I get the LightBurn template?
Email trevor@8dcreations.com with the jig you have (and your order number if you have one). Templates are sent by email. See LightBurn jig setup for the workflow.

Do you have a keychain jig for galvo lasers?
Yes — the Keychain Jig for Galvo Laser is made for galvo setups instead of the gantry-style trays.
